The Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences

We are now inviting applications for a Senior Researcher/Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences (http://www.uef.fi/en/web/envbio) in the biogeochemistry research group on the Kuopio Campus.  We are part of a larger research community working on climate, ecosystems and health (CLEHE) https://www.uef.fi/en/research-community/climate-forcing-ecosystems-and-health-clehe. Role and salary

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with experience in ecosystem ecology, biogeochemistry and process modeling. The research in the biogeochemistry group covers various boreal ecosystems and arctic permafrost soils, including northern agricultural soils, boreal forests, tundra, peatlands and aquatic ecosystems. We are mainly studying the processes underlying greenhouse gas fluxes between ecosystems and the atmosphere using field and laboratory measurements and by applying modeling approaches. A major part of our work is to study how changes in ecosystems, such as climate warming, permafrost thaw and soil management, various disturbances, such as wildfire, affect these fluxes. The successful candidate should be able to handle large datasets and numerical modeling tools and have previous experience in combining empirical data with models at various scales. The researcher is expected to take part in supervising MSc and PhD students, scientific writing, grant applications, scientific collaborations and teaching in suitable areas.
