The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a University Lecturer position in School of Computing in Joensuu. The position will be filled from 1st of May 2024 (or as agreed).

Role and salary

As our new University Lecturer, you will be working in the School of Computing at the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology. The position is located in Joensuu, Finland. The field of teaching and research of the University Lecturer is information technology.

The duties of the University Lecturer include the planning and implementation of training related to knowledge-based management, in particular knowledge management and information management. As regards information management, the duties also include techniques related to the visualisation of information. In general, the University Lecturer will participate in the planning and implementation of training provided in English in the School of Computing. 

The duties also include the opportunity to participate in scientific research and development projects, as well as in brainstorming related to and the preparation of research projects. The university lecturer participates in evaluating and developing education in the field, continuous learning, and the use of learning environments and methods in education. The language of instruction in the post is English.

The position will be filled from 1st of May 2024 (or as agreed). A probationary period is applied to all new members of the UEF staff.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job requirement component and a personal performance component. In this position, the job requirement component is based on levels 5 - 7 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal performance component can be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component. Depending on the job requirement component and the personal performance component, the salary will be approximately 3650 - 5170 €/month at the beginning of the employment relationship.

Requirements

  • a relevant doctoral degree in the field of information technology,
  • good teaching skills,
  • good oral and written proficiency in the English language (language of instruction is English).

Teaching skills are evaluated based on the documents submitted by the applicant. The evaluation of teaching skills focuses on your teaching and supervising experience, as well as your views related to the planning and implementation of teaching, which you present in your teaching portfolio (see the required attachments for the application).

The following will be considered as advantage

  • research evidence in the field of the information technology,
  • experience in educational planning tasks,
  • experience in supervising theses.
