The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a University Lecturer (Computer Science) position in the School of Computing in Kuopio. The position will be filled from 1st of June 2024 (or as agreed).

Role and salary

As our new University Lecturer, you will be working in the School of Computing at the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology. The field of teaching and research of the University Lecturer is Computer Science. The position is located in Kuopio, Finland.

The duties of the University Lecturer include the planning and implementation of education related to system development, in particular software testing and/or cyber security. The University Lecturer will participate in the planning and implementation of education provided in English (bachelor’s level education in computer science and information technology).

The duties also include the opportunity to participate in scientific research and development projects, as well as in brainstorming related to and the preparation of research projects. The university lecturer/university teacher participates in evaluating and developing education in the field, continuous learning, and the use of learning environments and methods in education. The language of instruction in the post is English.

The position will be filled from 1st of June 2024 (or as agreed). A probationary period is applied to all new members of the UEF staff.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two elements: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job-related salary element is based on levels 5 - 7 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element can be a maximum of 50 % of the job-related salary element. Depending on the job-related salary element and the personal salary element, the salary will be approximately EUR 3730–5270 /month at the beginning of the employment relationship.

Requirements:

  • a relevant doctoral degree in the field of information technology,
  • good teaching skills,
  • excellent oral and written proficiency in the English language (language of instruction is English).

The following will be considered as advantage:

  • research evidence in the field of the information technology,
  • experience in educational planning tasks,
  • experience in supervising theses,
  • experience in teaching and mentoring in English.
