Vice Rector (Research) - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The University of Eastern Finland is seeking a Vice Rector, who is able to create a motivated, inspiring, and participatory community culture, to lead the university’s multidisciplinary and international research activities for a five-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2025. 

Applicants for the post of Vice Rector for Research are expected to have

• extensive knowledge of the higher education sector, as well as insight and experience of university leadership and development, in particular in relation to research activities 
• the ability to further strengthen the university’s international position in research
• diverse interaction, networking and cooperation skills
• extensive cooperation networks with the various stakeholders of the university
• visions that enhance the attractiveness of the university.

The Board of the University of Eastern Finland will appoint the Vice Rector for the term of office that begins on 1 January 2025 and ends on 31 December 2029. The person to be appointed as the university’s Vice Rector is required to hold a doctoral degree and have the skills and professional competencies needed in the performance of the Vice Rector’s duties, as well as good leadership skills, which have been demonstrated in practice.

The Rector will lead the university in accordance with its values and strategy, and will manage the duties assigned to the rector in the Universities Act. The Vice Rectors shall be responsible for research and education. The Rector shall decide on the more detailed division of duties and substitution arrangements of the Rectors in cooperation with the Vice Rectors.
