The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a University Lecturer position (mathematics) at the Department of Physics and Mathematics in Joensuu. The position will be filled from 1st of June 2024 (or as agreed).

Role and salary

We are seeking a skilled and inspiring University Lecturer to the Department of Physics and Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, Forestry, and Technology. The field of teaching and research of the University Lecturer is Mathematics. The position will be located on the Joensuu Campus.

The field of teaching and research of the University Lecturer must be in a field of mathematics that is relevant to the department’s research profile. The duties include conducting research in the field, acquiring research resources, training researchers, and operating in cooperation networks in the field. The responsibility for developing mathematics teaching through international agreements in the field and coordination of international affairs are highlighted in the post. The University Lecturer will give teaching at basic, intermediate and advanced levels and supervise academic theses, and will also assess and develop education and continuous learning. The languages of instruction and supervision at the department are Finnish and English. The language of instruction in the post is English.

The position will be filled from 1st of June 2024 (or as agreed). A probationary period is applied to all new members of the UEF staff.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two elements: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job-related salary element is based on levels 5 - 7 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element can be a maximum of 50 % of the job-related salary element. Depending on the job-related salary element and the personal salary element, the salary will be approximately EUR 3730–5010 /month at the beginning of the employment relationship.

Requirements 

  • a relevant doctoral degree in the field of mathematics or other relevant field,
  • good teaching skills,
  • excellent oral and written proficiency in the English language (language of instruction is English).

Teaching skills are evaluated based on the documents submitted by the applicant. The evaluation of teaching skills focuses on your teaching and supervising experience, as well as your views related to the planning and implementation of teaching, which you present in your teaching portfolio (see the required attachments for the application).

The following will be considered as advantage:

  • experience in supervising postgraduate students.
