Doctoral Researcher, Accounting

We are inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) position in Accounting in the Doctoral Programme in Business Studies on the Joensuu or Kuopio Campus, beginning on 1 September 2024. Read more below and submit your application no later than 31 May 2024.

Position and salary 

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies is inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in Accounting in the Doctoral Programme in Business Studies in the field of sustainability reporting or sustainability assurance. The Doctoral Programme in Business Studies generates research expertise in business studies that goes beyond traditional discipline boundaries and meets international requirements.

The main duty of the Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) is to conduct doctoral research in accordance with an approved research proposal. The Doctoral Researcher will work at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies on the Joensuu or Kuopio Campus.

The Doctoral Researcher position will be filled as of 1 September 2024 for a two-year period (the aim is to provide funding for two additional years as the dissertation work progresses). The position is full-time, enabling full-time work on the doctoral dissertation. Doctoral Researcher positions are always filled for a fixed term. A probationary period is applied to new members of the staff.

The salary of the position is based on the salary system for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. The salary consists of a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job-related salary element is based on level 2–4 of the job requirement level chart (EUR 2,225.83 – 2,775.28), and the personal salary element is 6–50% of the job-related salary element. In the position of a Doctoral Researcher, the salary is determined based on the stage of doctoral research and doctoral studies, as well as on personal performance.

Our requirements  

You must be eligible for doctoral education, i.e., hold a suitable higher university degree or have a suitable foreign education qualifying for equivalent university studies in the country concerned and must have excellent English language skills.

A person who is planning or working on their first doctoral degree can be appointed to the Doctoral Researcher position.

The person to be appointed must have a valid right to pursue postgraduate studies in Business Studies at the University of Eastern Finland no later than 1 September 2024.

When filling the position, consideration will be given to 

•    the applicant’s research proposal
•    language skills required for the position
•    earlier academic performance
•    international orientation
•    achievements in research
•    duration of any previous funding received for doctoral research and its progress, and an assessment of the applicant’s possibilities to complete their research and studies.

The research proposal will be evaluated based on the following criteria: scientific and societal relevance; objectives; theoretical framework and concepts; mastery of the research literature; plan for the collection of data and analysis methods; plan covering the schedule, publications and funding; analysis of ethical viewpoints; and the scientific level and innovativeness of the research proposal.

The aim is for the faculty to decide on the person to be appointed to the position by the end of June 2024. 

For applicants who do not yet have the right to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Eastern Finland, the appointment to the Doctoral Researcher position will be conditional until they have been granted the right to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Eastern Finland.

•    A research proposal that adheres to the guidelines of the doctoral programme. Postgraduate students already enrolled must submit an updated research proposal 

•    A copy of the diploma and transcript of academic records proving the applicant’s eligibility to pursue postgraduate studies. The documents must be in either Finnish or English. For translated documents, only a Diploma Supplement issued by the higher education institution in question and/or other official translations issued by the awarding higher education institution or an authorised translator are accepted.

•    Copies of certificates of language proficiency, if not indicated in the academic degree certificates/diplomas.

Haemme laskentatoimen väitöskirjatutkijaa. Tehtävä sijoittuu yhteiskuntatieteiden ja kauppatieteiden tiedekuntaan Kuopion tai Joensuun kampukselle ja alkaa 1.9.2024 ja se täytetään ensin kahden vuoden määräajaksi (1.9.2024-31.8.2026).  Tässä tehtävässä tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa on vaativuustasoluokittelussa tasolla 2–4 (2225,83 € - 2775,28 €). Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on 6–50 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkanosasta. Tehtävässä edellytetään erinomaista englannin kielen taitoa.
