The Faculty of Health Sciences, Public Health and Clinical Nutrition

We are seeking a Professor of Public Health. The position is based on the Kuopio campus and will start on 01 August 2026 or as agreed. Read more below and apply by 14 November 2025.

Role and Salary

As Professor of Public Health, you will work in the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition of the Scholl of Medicine on the Kuopio campus. The Institute is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The position will be filled on a permanent basis starting on 1 August 2026.

The duties of the Professor of Public Health include:

  • leading and supervising teaching and research in the field of public health, as well as scientific postgraduate education,
  • international training and development work,
  • teaching public health to students, managing teaching arrangements, and overseeing postgraduate education in the discipline within an integrated operating environment.

According to the decision made by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (11 September 2025), the person appointed to the post of Professor of Public Health is not required to have practical expertise in the discipline.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities, on levels 8–11 (€5,223.57 – €7,697.25/month) of the job requirement level chart. In addition to the job-related salary element, the salary is supplemented with a personal salary element, which can be a maximum of 50% of the job-related salary element.

Our requirements and expectations

We require:

  • a doctoral degree in a relevant field,
  • the person to be appointed to the position is expected to be fluent in the English language and to be able to supervise students and teach in English. Proficiency in the Finnish language will be regarded as a merit,
  • good teaching skills,
  • teaching and supervision experience.
