The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for two University Teacher/University Lecturer positions (Information and Communication Technology) hosted by the School of Computing on the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. The positions will be filled from 1 January 2026 onwards (or as agreed) until further notice.

Role and salary

We are seeking two highly motivated University Teachers/University Lecturers to the School of Computing at the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology of the University of Eastern Finland. One of the positions is located on the Joensuu Campus and the other one on the Kuopio Campus.

The posts of University Teacher/University Lecturer are teaching-oriented, and the field of teaching is Information and Communication Technology. The duties include, in particular, the planning, development and implementation of basic level teaching in modern software technology. University Teachers/University Lecturers participate in evaluating and developing education and continuous learning in the field, as well as the use of learning environments and methods in education.

The School of Computing provides teaching in Finnish and English. The person to be appointed to the post of University Teacher/University Lecturer is required to have good skills in the English language to provide teaching in English and sufficient skills in the Finnish language.

The role will support, for its part, the new Master of Science in Data Technology education (website), which will start at the University of Eastern Finland in autumn 2026. The data technology education includes training in data science, statistics and software development.

The positions will be filled from 1 January 2026 onwards (or as agreed) until further notice. A trial period is applied to all new members of staff.

The salary of the positions is determined in accordance with the salary system for Finnish universities. The salary comprises two elements: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. For University Teacher, the job-related salary element is based on levels 4–5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff. For University Lecturer, the job-related salary element is based on levels 5–7 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element can be a maximum of 50% of the job-related salary element. Depending on the job-related salary element and the personal salary element, the salary of a University Teacher will be approximately EUR 3,300–4,020 /month and the salary of a University Lecturer will be approximately EUR 3,825–5,140 /month at the beginning of the employment relationship.

Our requirements and expectations

Requirements:

  • the person appointed as a University Teacher must have a suitable higher university degree in information and communication technology, computer science, information systems science or another relevant field
  • the person appointed as a University Lecturer must have a doctoral degree in information and communication technology, computer science, information systems science or another relevant field
  • both the University Lecturer and the University Teacher are required to have good teaching skills
  • the person appointed as a University Teacher must have good practical familiarity with the field
  • excellent oral and written proficiency in the English language is also required, as well as sufficient skills in the Finnish language to manage their duties

Teaching skills are evaluated based on the documents submitted by the applicant. The evaluation of teaching skills focuses on your teaching and supervision experience, as well as on your views related to the planning and implementation of teaching, as presented in your teaching portfolio (see the required attachments of the application).

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • experience of teaching courses with a large number of students
  • experience of online and blended learning
  • professional experience in software development
  • experience in business collaboration
  • feedback analysis prepared by the applicant on their teaching
  • experience in the planning of curricula
