The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher position on the Kuopio Campus. The position will be filled for a two or three-year term starting from 1 September 2024 (or as agreed). Please find more information below and submit your application by 5 July 2024.

Role and salary

As our new Doctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics (focus on toxicogenomics and drug safety assessment), you will be working in the School of Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The position is located in Kuopio, Finland.

As our new Doctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics, your main responsibilities will include:

  • conducting research in accordance with your research proposal,
  • participating in the preparation of research projects in your field,
  • reporting and producing high-quality scientific publications,
  • planning and conducting studies.

Other responsibilities include conducting research within the NEMESIS project, which financially supports this position. This research requires knowledge of the pre-processing and downstream analysis of gene expression data derived from either RNA-seq or microarray-based platforms. Experience of the pre-processing and analysis of DNA methylation and ATAC-seq data is considered to be an advantage. During the project, the doctoral student will learn how to conduct network-based analysis of the mentioned omics data, which will be integrated into pathway-based analyses to characterize the mechanisms of action of chemical exposures in in vivo and in vitro models.

The objective is to further expand the developed methods within the NEMESIS project for application in drug safety assessment and for the development of in silico (machine/graph learning-based) approaches to predict/assess drug-related toxicity. This computational framework aims to assess adverse drug reactions associated with individuals or patient subgroups in cancer-based cohorts.
