Project Researcher or Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics, Toxicogenomics and Machine Learning

The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher or a Project Researcher position on the Kuopio Campus. The position will be filled for a 2-year term from February 2025 to December 2027 (or as agreed).

Role and salary 

As our new Researcher in Toxicogenomic and Machine Learning, you will be working in the School of Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The position is located in Kuopio, Finland.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Conducting research within the EU-funded project NEMESIS
• Pre-processing and analyzing single-omics data layers, such as RNA-seq data, and multi-omics data
• Implementing computational methods by utilizing machine learning and network data mining to analyze large-scale toxicogenomic datasets
• Reporting findings and creating high-quality scientific publications
• Supporting teaching activities

The position will be filled for a 2-year term starting from February 2025 (or as agreed). The position will be filled for a fixed term due to project related tasks of the NEMESIS project. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In the position of Postdoctoral Researcher/Project researcher, the job requirement element is EUR 3,214/month, based on level 5 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element is 6 - 50% of the job-related salary element. The salary of a Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher will be approximately EUR 3,534,91–3,920,51/month.

Our requirements

• The doctoral degree may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position (a net period of time, which does not include parental leaves, military service, etc.). If the person to be appointed has received a doctoral degree more than five years ago, the position will be filled as a Project Researcher.
• A strong research record with publications related to bioinformatics
• Solid background knowledge in analyzing omics data (e.g., RNA-seq, metabolomics, and ATAC-seq data)
• Proficiency in basic statistical and machine learning methods (knowledge of Bayesian network-based inference is a plus)
• Experience with network data mining and integrative analysis of multi-omics data
• Excellent skills in oral and written English; English is the language of instruction and supervision for this position
• Experience in externally funded research projects and teaching skills necessary for the position, as well as an independent approach to conducting research

Haemme tutkijatohtoria tai projektitutkijaa Itä-Suomen Yliopiston biolääketieteen yksikköön Vittorio Fortinon tutkimusryhmään. Tehtävä sijoittuu lääketieteen laitokselle, biolääketieteen yksikköön Kuopion kampukselle. Tehtävä alkaa 1.2.2025 (tai sopimuksen mukaan) ja se täytetään kahden vuoden määräajaksi.
